ABOUT THE KANSAS CITY BARBEQUE SOCIETY

 
 

THE KANSAS CITY BARBEQUE SOCIETY (KCBS), a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting and enjoying barbeque, is the world’s largest organization of barbeque and grilling enthusiasts with over 20,000 members worldwide.

KCBS sanctions over 500 barbeque contests world wide. From volunteering to actual event production, our members also offer assistance to civic and charitable organizations who organize events.

KCBS serves as a clearinghouse of barbeque information which provides:

  • Networking with related trade associations and other contest-sanctioning organizations

  • Tracking trends in barbeque related products, and equipment

  • Teaming up with other food organizations and the media to promote barbeque

With our library, and extensive archive of barbeque related articles, KCBS offers educational programs, consultation services, and civic organization presentations to help promote barbeque as America’s Favorite Cuisine.


ABOUT THE STEAK COOKOFF ASSOCIATION

The Steak Cookoff Association is dedicated to building the sport of steak cook offs. The SCA benefits both cook teams and cook offs by implementing standardized rules and equal competitive opportunities for each team.

Every cook team likes to know the rules, know the judging tent is run with integrity, payouts are guaranteed and that they have an equal opportunity to win. So after a year of conversations and negotiations with some of the most influential leaders of the steak cookoff community, the SCA was created. Now cook teams can be assured of a fair and well run cookoff when it is sanctioned by the SCA. 

All SCA sanctioned cookoffs will have a “SCA Representative” on site to run the judging area and be an ambassador to the cook teams. The SCA Representative will be trained and know all the rules and regulations of an SCA cookoff.  

SCA was founded in late 2013 by Brett Gallaway and Ken Phillips. At the time there were only 9 steak cookoffs in the United States. In 2014 SCA sanctioned 19 events; 2015 SCA Sanctioned 47 events including Europe and Canada; 2016 SCA sanctioned 87 events and in 2017 SCA sanctioned 116 events with events in the US, Japan, Canada, Belgium, The Netherlands, The UK, Germany and Australia.
